On Friday 12th February Riela Cyber are hosting a virtual event for local businesses on the Isle of Man.

Together with the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA) and the Department for Enterprise (DfE), we will be sharing everything you need to know about the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Cyber Essentials certification and the financial support available to local businesses.

We plan to host a series of online and in-person events throughout 2021. As this is our first event, we will offer one attendee the chance to have their Cyber Essentials assessment completed for FREE, worth £300 (ex. VAT). T&C apply.

why is the event just for isle of man businesses?

We, Riela Cyber, are proud to have our headquarters located in Ballasalla. At the time of writing, over 90% of our employees live on the island and work from our Euromanx House office. Naturally, we have a vested interest in the cyber security and resilience of the local community.

In line with the Manx National Security Strategy, the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA) and the Department for Enterprise have showcased how the Business Improvement Scheme (BIS) can be used for cyber security projects, inclusive of the Cyber Essentials certification. The scheme offers a 50% grant up to a maximum of £5,000.

Event speakers will cover the following talking points:

  • What is the Cyber Essentials certification?
  • How do you become Cyber Essentials certified?
  • The benefits of Cyber Essentials
  • Isle of Man Cyber Security Update – led by Alan Chambers from the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA)
  • How to use the Business Improvement Scheme (BIS) grant to invest in improving the cyber security of your business (Isle of Man businesses only) – led by Susan Lawlor of the Department for Enterprise
  • Who is Riela Cyber?

After the presentation, there will be the ability to network with all speakers and other attendees via the virtual tables. In place of a typical Q&A session, the Airmeet platform enables you to ask your questions directly over video-enabled, table discussions, as well as discuss the wider subject of cyber security with other attendees.

why a virtual event?

The Isle of Man is fortunate enough to have successfully surpassed the circuit break lockdown. However, as a company built on technological advancements, we wanted to take this opportunity to make the event accessible from your desk, whether you are working from home or in the office.

The event will be taking place on the Airmeet platform, which, in our opinion, provides an experience most akin to an in-person event.

Attendees will receive the most important information about Cyber Essentials during the 30-minute presentation. Afterwards, all speakers and attendees can begin ‘Networking in Cyber Space’, available for up to 1-hour.

REMEMBER: Test your microphone and video connection beforehand to make sure you don’t miss the networking opportunity. We recommend you join the Airmeet event using a desktop or laptop with a stable internet connection using Google Chrome. Airmeet is not compatible with mobile or tablet devices.

  • Only one attendee from the event is eligible for the FREE Cyber Essentials assessment.
  • The attendee will be selected, at random, using an online tool.
  • The winner must complete their assessment before March 31st.
  • Advice prior to the assessment will be provided by Riela Cyber to assist the winner and their company with passing the certification.
  • If the winner fails the assessment on the first attempt, a re-assessment fee will apply.
